Polish Movie Posters

There is something unique, creative, and sometimes even crazy about Polish movie posters. These Eastern artistic masterpieces have recently attracted Western attention with a number of high-profile exhibitions, including the Museum of Modern Art. Polish movie posters are usually recognizable because they often avoid the more iconic imagery that is associated with the film.

During Communist rule, the Polish state-run film industry rejected both Western ideas and their promotion and marketing ideals, resulting in the training and specialization of Polish movie poster artists. All our memorable Western films have been immortalized in striking, unaffected posters by these young artisans. They are expressive, surreal, and unrestrained.

Polish poster artists are not hindered by demands to use photography or actors in their designs, and often the leading stars won't even be featured. In some cases, the artist had never seen the film or any of the imagery contained in it. The result was designs that conveyed the essence of the film in an artistic manner.
